Hello! it’s been a short while… hope you’ve all had an excellent summer!
July and August are busy festival months for many bands, and we loved seeing familiar faces (and some newer ones!) come in to rehearse before loading into a van and heading off across the country or over the channel.
Bleech 9:3 were in and out quite a bit as they prepared for a triumphant Rough Trade East gig and Radio One live session, before setting off for a string of festival dates. We were especially interested to see the lineup of Haldern Pop Festival in Germany, where they shared a bill with fellow BXHSers Mount Palomar as well as Cameron Picton’s My New Band Believe, and Geordie Greep.
In August we were delighted to see local legend David McAlmont at the studio for his upcoming show this Sunday 6th September at Green Note – it’s a sold out show, but there’s a waiting list you can join. Both he and the band were sounding excellent in rehearsal.
Also playing in London on 6th September are beloved roots reggae band Abakush. They’ve been sounding better than ever in recent rehearsals and it’s sure to be an excellent night at The Fox & Firkin in Lewisham this Sunday.
Earlier in the summer we hosted festival rehearsals for artists including:
- Emerson who were bringing their melodic jangle-pop to Guilfest on the first weekend of July
- “Afro Thai Funk” fusion artist Salin was in with her band ahead of an appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival
- Hyperreal fine-tuned their futuristic fusion of synthpop, shoegaze and dreampop for a performance at Fire & Smoke festival
- Little Bulb Theatre Company made full use of the space in Studio 1, with a live band and cast of actors and dancers. Their latest production Listen Dance is an interactive show which encourages the audience to join in with various styles of dance, and they were due to perform at both Latitude and Wilderness festivals.
- British-Iranian alternative artist Izzy T brought her guitar-driven, dark electronica band in to rehearse for a BBC Introducing festival show at Humber Street Fest in her hometown of Hull
